AER Rule Submissions 27-30: Atlanta (1-4; 2.00, 5.02)
Atlanta submitted and successfully passed the modification of Rule 5.02(a) and addition of Rules 2.00(Anger), 2,00(Nobody), and 5.02(b). No vote was passed due to the submission being made by the Committee Psychologist.
2.00 ANGER - The emotion experienced by an umpire whenever they do something you don't like. It is generally characterized by a neutral expression and a relatively calm demeanor when compared to team members expressing the emotion known as passion.
2.00 NOBODY - The umpire, manager, catcher, batter, pitcher, coaches, players in the dugout, first five rows of fans, and the broadcast team.
5.02(a) If Janet is in the crowd, hers is the sole vote which shall be counted.
5.02(b) If the decision could result in an ejection, the umpire shall first conduct a poll to discover whether or not anybody in the ballpark knew that anything happened. Oakland submitted and successfully passed the addition of Rule 5.06 to the Announcers' Ejection Rules. The proposal passed by a vote of 29-1.
5.06) Umpires should remember not to insert themselves into the middle of the game of baseball, as umpires have no role in the game proper. As such, umpires should not call attention to themselves or have any effect on the game in any manner, including but not limited to the following:
(a) Making a call that is not expected.
(b) Enforcing the rules.
(c) Saying words.
(d) Making gestures.
